SUMMARY:IEM CAS Distinguished Guest Seminar Series - Cyril Hanus
DESCRIPTION:The dendrite’s sweet spot: Atypical glycosylation of the neuronal surface and impact on synaptic receptor trafficking\, structure and function\nLecturer: Cyril Hanus\, PhD. / The Institute of Psychiatry and Neuroscience of Paris \nThe seminar will take place on 30. 04. 2024 from 10:00 p.m. in the Turquoise Auditorium of the IEM CAS. \nAnnotation: \nLike 75% of membrane proteins\, neurotransmitter receptors and synaptic adhesion molecules are literally covered by covalently linked sugars\, N-glycans. Despite a general awareness that N-glycans may have a strong impact on protein structure and function and are altered in a number of brain pathologies\, we know surprisingly little about N-glycosylation in the brain. Our work indicates that a substantial fraction of neuronal surface proteins\, notably glutamate AMPA receptors\, are locally synthesized in dendrites and use unconventional Golgi-independent pathways to reach the neuronal surface. This local processing modifies protein N-glycosylation states and hence regulates receptor chemical composition and function\, unravelling a previously unrecognized mechanism controlling the sensing properties and plasticity of the neuronal membrane. \nKeywords: cell-biology\, neurotransmitter receptors\, synaptic plasticity\, cell type-specific gene knockout\, electrophysiology\, mass spectrometry\, molecular dynamics\, structural biology \nWe look forward to your participation.

SUMMARY:IEM CAS μLectures Seminar Series: Confocal Microscopy
DESCRIPTION:μLectures is a monthly seminar series designed to enhance researchers’ understanding of microscopy’s fundamental workings and principles. Each session\, lasting 30 minutes\, focuses on a specific concept or topic within microscopy. The practical information presented aims to deepen researchers’ comprehension of their microscopy experiments\, giving them a better overview of the options available and enabling them to improve their experimental design and more effectively identify and resolve potential issues. \nAnnotation\nThis session will focus on confocal microscopy. We will talk about the basic principles of confocal microscopy\, its practical implications and the difference between different confocal microscopy techniques (scanning vs spinning disk). \nThe seminar will take place on 30. 4. 2024 from 1 p.m. in the Turquoise Auditorium of the IEM CAS. It will also be possible to join online using this link (open in a new window). \nRegistration\nRegistration is not required\, but we will be happy if you let us know (in person or at iva.svecova@iem.cas.cz) and if we have an idea of how many people are planning to come. \nLecturer\nBarbora Hyklová\, PhD.
