SUMMARY:Course Processing and Analysis of Microscopic Images in Biomedicine
DESCRIPTION:Dear Colleagues\, \nthe Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Czech Academy of Sciences would like to invite you to the 5-day course „Processing and analysis of microscopic images in biomedicine (PAMIB25)“ intended for PhD students and junior researchers. \nThe course will address fundamental aspects of image data acquisition\, processing\, and analysis\, encompassing techniques in stereology. Alongside theoretical principles\, the course will prioritize hands-on practical learning. Participants will gain proficiency in utilizing the freely available software package Fiji for both basic and advanced analyses. They will learn to assess co-localizations\, analyze data from FRAP and electron microscopy\, track particles\, segment objects in images\, and explore methods of employing artificial intelligence for image segmentation. \nAdditionally\, participants will master techniques to enhance data quality through deconvolution using Huygens software. An interactive session featuring Imaris software will be complemented by practical exercises. Furthermore\, this year introduces a session utilizing NIS-Elements\, a platform for image processing developed in Prague\, and a lecture about the publishing images in scientific journals. Independent practical tasks involving Fiji and Huygens will also constitute a significant component of the course. \nThe course will be held at the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Czech Academy of Sciences in Prague in March 31 – April 4\, 2025. For more information and link to the registration form\, please\, visit the course website: https://course.img.cas.cz/pamib/. The registration deadline is March 17. \nWhile the course aligns with the Microscopy Methods in Biomedicine\, prior attendance is not a prerequisite for participation. \nThe course will be taught in English. \nOn behalf of the organizers\, \nMichaela Blažíková and Martin Čapek

SUMMARY:Seminář Diego F. Joseph\, M.Sc.
DESCRIPTION:“Life Through Colors: Single-cell fluorescence-based reporter system for monitoring gene expression” \nThe presentation will depict a long journey from decision to actual making a novel reporter system for RNA silencing\, which could also be adopted for studying other mechanisms manipulating gene expression. This development lead to production of two types of triple-color reporter HeLa lines where fluorescence reporters are inserted in frame in into endogenous genes encoding highly abundant soluble nuclear proteins. The system now allows for monitoring repression (loss of specific dluorescence) and derepression (appearence of previously silenced fluorescence) across the entire population of cultured cells and\, possibly\, for high throughput screening.
