“The novel sphingolipid synthesis regulators in cell life”
Sphingolipids are bioactive lipids and critical structural components of cell membranes. Regulation of their de novo synthesis is critical for normal mammalian development and physiology. Although the ORMDL family has been identified as the gatekeeper of the serine palmitoyl transferase (SPT) activity, our new data suggest that other components are also involved. We will present our results on new regulators of the SPT complex based on their interaction with members of the ORMDL family using genetic, immunogenetic and mass spectrometry approaches. Our data indicate that SPT regulatory circuits are more complex than previously thought.
