“The impact of genetic cheating on mammalian reproduction and speciation”
Selfish DNA violate Mendel’s Law of Segregation by biased segregation to the egg cell. This genetic cheating, meiotic drive, is a widespread phenomenon across eukaryotes with associated fitness costs such as fertility issues. I will discuss our recent work on the cell biological mechanism of meiotic drive and how it can impact mammalian reproduction and speciation.
