The fifth year of the Science Fair organized by CAS took place at the PVA EXPO Exhibition Center in Prague-Letňany on 6-8 June 2019. The event presents the general public
with interesting facts and news from the world of natural, technical and humanities and social sciences. It is the largest popular educational event in the Czech Republic.
Our preparations started on Wednesday 5.6. This year we have had a larger booth of 30 m2. We exhibited the Varian-Techtron atomic absorption spectrometer from the 1960s, which has been still operational.
For the first time, we have also prepared three engaging tasks for acidity, alkalinity and paper chromatography tests for the youngest visitors. The children wrote down the results in a laboratory diary and received small
prizes for their efforts. Interest exceeded our expectations, more than 170 children have participated actively.
Dr. Hlaváček from Department of Bioanalytical Instrumentation in Brno brought nanoparticles showing luminescence. Traditionally, we measured mercury content in the visitors' hair. We carried out more than 130 analysis
of mercury during the Science Fair. The results you can find here.
The exhibition was complemented by posters about the institute, our results, as well as a promotional video of the Institute and shots from previous years of the Science Fair. More photos and reports from this year's
edition can be found in our Gallery and at www.veletrhvědy.cz. We believe that next year we will be able to present the best research at UIACH in Brno and Prague.
